In honor of Earth Day today I am sharing the many ways (some of which are free) to go green – help save our planet and all its inhabitants both animals and people.
If everyone did 1 small thing it would make a profound difference for our planet.
Going Green
- Trade out traditional cleaning products for eco-friendly ones
- Make sure to turn off lights when not in a room & switch bulbs to LEDs when possible
- Re-cycle glass, bottles, plastic, cans, newspaper, donate magazines & books to charity, churches & schools
- Use reusable shopping bags instead of paper or plastic (keep them in your car so you don’t forget them when grocery shopping)
- Consolidate shopping trips and errands by making a list and mapping out the best route to avoid driving around wasting gas
- For city dwellers consider using a bike for errands
- Buy more organic brands for food and grass fed meat
- Consider planting your own garden for 3 -5 of your most used veggies / fruits in your home
- Use a temperature controlled thermostat for heating / air
- After reading books & magazines when your not interested in keeping them around donate them so someone else can get use out of them
- Opt for free online bill statements, banking, and use free online software like Mint and Manilla
- Re-upholster old furniture, paint or stain old wood cabinets and dressers to give them a new life
- Consider donating money to a worthwhile cause focused on the environment – if your looking for one consider NRDC
- Read blogs that promote “green” life styles or you can read my blog’ s green section as I will continue to write articles for ways to green your life
