A great way to personalize your space and make it feel more open is to remove the doors from upper cabinets, or to add shelves if you have an empty wall space needing more storage.

Here are a few basic rules to make your new open  cabinets stylish not cluttered.

  1.  Make sure all cabinet doors are removed & feel free to pain the back panel / wall with an accent color
  2.  Keep all items in the same color family to make it feel open, less cluttered (i.e. all white or all blue plates, cups, bowls, saucers, etc.)
  3. If you are adding shelves (not cabinets) make sure you properly measure the space and make sure they are placed all the way up the wall, go with as many shelves as possible
  4. Do not overfill the shelves/cabinets  make sure it’s easy to grab that cup or bowl without banging into other items
  5. Make sure if you are putting up shelves that you use a level and that the shelves hang level so items aren’t sitting slanted
  6. Use baskets on shelves or open cabinets to stores items you need to keep on hand but want to keep hidden for a neat look ( cloth napkins, table clothes, dish towels, linens, etc)

I hope this will inspire you to realize that regardless of how big or small your kitchen is something as easy as removing doors to upper cabinets or adding shelves can give your kitchen a complete new airy look.
